Niyaz
April 09, 2006
I was lucky enough to see the performance of “Niyaz” band and meet “Azam Ali” the lead singer of the band last night. If you are interested you can check out their site at http://www.niyazmusic.com and read reviews of major media about this unique band. If you get a chance to see their performance I highly recommend you don’t give it up, their performance, mixture of music and Ali's voice are stunning. Their music is available in iTunes, for those of you who love fine multi-cultural music and poetry. Thanks for visiting.

warm colours, very cool picture indeed.
Very cool shot, nice tone.
Wonderful shot! I hope they want this as a publicity photo.
What is the instrument called?
2 of my kids are musicians, my youngest is a string player. I haven't seen a string instrument quite like this, although one of the members in one of the orchestras they are in was describing an instrument to me that came to mind when I saw this, but I cannot for the life of me remember the name.
Laurie: I believe it's an electronic "guitarviol", it's a 14th century bowed guitar. I never saw it being played before.
Thanks,
Noushin
You seem to have really captured the mood here NOush...very nice.
Phil
Ohhh yes - this is very good....I can hear them playing.
Man you're good!..
This is a very nice "concert/music" image, a very dreamy light.
Hi,
My name is Jonathan Wilson and I am the designer/builder of the "GuitarViol". Actually, this is bow-playable guitar and is very much a modern viol. Viols were essentially bowed guitars that had origins in the 14th-likely 15th century Spain. Guitar players of the day (Lutes/vihuelas) experimented with bows (From Morroco) and a new instrument was born!
